area of triangle =1/2*base*altitude
let base be X an altitude X+4
Therefore, 48=1/2*X*X+4
48=x^2+2x
x^2+2x-48=0
Here you have a quadratic equation which in solving will give the value of X.
X=base=answer.
Hope this helps. :-)

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

b både

h height

h = b + 4

b(b+4)/2 = 48

b(b + 4) = 96

b^2 + 4b - 96 = 0

b = 8.
