Area of the sqaure =

70cm * 70cm

 {4900m}^{2}

Let the side corresponding to the altitude be x

Area of the triangle =

4900 =  \frac{1}{2}  \times b \times h \\  4900 = \frac{1}{2}  \times x \times 35 \\ 4900 \times  \frac{2}{1}  = x \times 35 \\ 9800 = x \times 35 \\  \frac{9800}{35}  = x \\ 280 = x

Base = 280 cm

Base in Meter =

280/100

2.8 meters

The side of a triangle corresponding to the altitude measures 35 cm is 2.8 m .

Explanation:

Area of square = (side)²

Area of square with sides 70 cm = (70)² = 4900 cm²

Area of triangle = \dfrac{1}{2}(base)(altitude)

Let x be the side  in metres, corresponding to the altitude measures 35 cm.

Then, Area of triangle =\dfrac{1}{2}(x)(35)=\dfrac{35x}{2}  cm²

Since , the area of a triangle is equal to that of a square whose each side measure 70 cm.

\dfrac{35x}{2}=4900

x=\dfrac{4900\times2}{35}=280

The side of a triangle corresponding to the altitude measures 35 cm is 280 cm .

In meters , \dfrac{280}{100}=2.8\ m  [∵ 1 m= 100 cm]

∴ The side of a triangle corresponding to the altitude measures 35 cm is 2.8 m.
