let the parallel sides of the trapezium be x and y.

ATQ, the difference between the parallel sides of the trapezium is 6cm.

=> x - y = 6cm

=> x = 6 + y

area of the trapezium = 120cm²

height (perpendicular distance between the parallel sides) = 8cm

formula for the area of a trapezium is 1/2 × h(b1 + b2) where b1 and b2 are the parallel sides of the trapezium.

=> 1/2 × h(b1 + b2) = 120cm²

=> 1/2 × 8 (y + 6 + y) = 120cm²

=> 4(2y + 6) = 120cm²

=> 2y + 6 = 120/4

=> 2y + 6 = 30cm

=> 2y = 30 - 6

=> 2y = 24cm

=> y = 24/2

=> y = 12cm

hence, the length of the parallel sides of the trapezium are :-

y = 12cm

x = 6 + y = 6 + 12 = 18cm
