  • The length of the parallel sides of the trapezium = 24 cm and 9 cm.

Explanation:

Given:

  • The area of the trapezium is 198 cm sq.
  • The altitude(perpendicular distance between the parallel sides) of the trapezium is 12 cm.
  • The ratio of parallel sides of the trapezium is 8:3

To find:

Length of each parallel sides

  • The formula to find the area of a trapezium is

= 1/2 * (Sum of parallel sides) * altitude

So,

  • Let the parallel sides be 8x cm and 3x cm

⇒ 1/2 * (8x + 3x) * 12 = 198

⇒ 1/2 * (11x) * 12 = 198

⇒ 11x * 6 = 198

⇒ 66x = 198

⇒ x = 198 ÷ 66

[By transporting (66) to RHS]

⇒ x = 3

  • So, the value of x is 3

Now,

The parallel sides of the trapezium are

  • (8x) = 8 * 3 = 24 cm

And

  • (3x) = 3 * 3 = 9 cm
