SOLUTION

We can simply solve the problem as under.

Let x₁ x₂ x₃ x₄ x₅ and x₆ be the given set of values

Arithmetic mean = sum of all the values/number of value

$45 = \frac{x₁ + x₂ + x₃ + x₄ + x₅ + x₆}{6}$

since it is given that all the values are increased by a constant number = 4

New mean = original mean + increased value

New mean = 45 + 4 = 49

Hence, the arithmetic mean of the new set of values is 49
