Hey mate!!

Your answer ➡__➡__➡__➡

One element (A) has atomic number ➡12 that means it's Electronic configuration will be➡(2,8,2).This also tells us that this I a metal and can only lose 2 electrons to gain Noble gas configuration.

Another element (B) has atomic number ➡8 that means it's Electronic configuration will be➡(2,6).This also tells us that it is a non-metal and can only gain 2 electrons to attain Noble gas configuration or to attain it's octet.

So,

A can lose two electrons due to which it will carry 2positive charge on it and B can only gain two electrons due to which it will carry 2negative charge on it .

After all, the compound formed by them will be

 {a}^{ + 2} \: \: \: \: {b}^{ - 2}

The two charges which you can see will be cancelled because of the opposite signs and thus the product would be AB

 {mg}^{2 + } \: \: \: \: {o}^{2 - }

When the charges cancel out they form MgO.
(Magnesium oxide)

Furthermore,to balance it ➡
2Mg+O2➡2MgO

Hope this helps you...
