It may be difficult to give a definitve answer such a question. The operative word here is success because it means different things to different people. In today's context, if success means earning a decent income through whatever vocation one chooses then one can say litrecy or being educated or qualified alone does not gaurantee success. There may be many illiterates who made it big through their intelligence and hard work. But that may be only very few and far between.

Things have become very complicated today to conclusively say you can succeed even if you are not a literate. Maybe one in a million may succeed.

The author throughout the story maintains that literacy doesn’t ensure success.

However, the definition of success is different for different people so you can’t assume on only a broader end and ignore the narrow thinking.

It will depend on the sustainability and the path that is taken by an individual.
