173 saplings planted by the Sixth student

Step-by-step explanation:

Average = \frac{\text{Sum of all observations}}{\text{No. of observations}}

We are given that the average of sapling planted by six students in the open space outside village is 60

Five of them planted 27,31,35,42,52 saplings respectively.

Let saplings planted by the Sixth student be x

So, 60 = \frac{27+31+35+42+52+x}{6}

360 = 27+31+35+42+52+x

360 = 187+x

360-187=x

173=x

Hence 173  saplings planted by the Sixth student
