Explanation:

Given:

1. The average age of a father and son is 32 years

2. The age of the father is 3  times that of the son

To find:

The ages of the father and son.

Solution:

==> Father age =x

==> Son Age = y

==> Average =\frac{x+y}{2}

==> Average = 32 years

==> 32 =\frac{x+y}{2}

==> x+y = 32×2

==> x+y = 64 ==>1

==> Father Age = 3(Son Age)

==> x = 3y  ==>2

==> Apply the equation 2 in 1

==> 3y + y = 64

==> 4y = 64

==> y = 64÷4

==> y = 16

==> Apply y value in equation 2

==> x =3(16)

==> x =48

The age of Father is 48 years

The age of Son is 16 years
