Total age of five members of a family = 24 x 5= 120

Total age of four members at the time of birth of youngest = 120 - 8 x 5

= 120 - 40 = 80 yr

Hence, required average age =80/4= 20 yr
ANOTHER METHOD::

At present the total age of the family = 5 * 24 = 120

The total age of the family at the time of the birth of the youngest member = [120 - 8 - (8 * 4)] = 80.

Therefore, average age of the family at the time of birth of the youngest member = 80 / 4 = 20.

AmudhavelVchamp: At present the total age of the family = 5 * 24 = 120

The total age of the family at the time of the birth of the youngest member = [120 - 8 - (8 * 4)] = 80., average age of the family at the time of birth of the youngest member = 80 / 4 = 20.

average age of 5 person is 24
total age= 24 x 5 = 120
age of youngest member 8
so, 120-8 = 112
remaining members are 4 ..then
112/4=23
