Answer

The average height of a family of six members = 160 cm

Let, the height of sixth family member = x cm

  • The average height = The sum of all heights ÷ Number of members in family.

》160 = ( 164 + 156 + 162 + 155 + 158 + x ) ÷ 6

》160 = ( 795 + x ) ÷ 6

》160 × 6 = 795 + x ( 6 has transposed from R.H.S to L.H.S )

》960 = 795 + x

》x = 960 – 795 = 165 .

Therefore, the height of sixth family member is = 165 cm. ( Ans )
