Given :  The average market price of three shares A, B and C is Rs. X.

Shares A and  C  lose Rs. y each and

B gains Rs. y/2.

As a result, the average market price of the three shares decreases by Rs 1.

To Find : The value of y is

Solution:

The average market price of three shares A, B and C is Rs. X.

Total Price = 3x

the average market price of the three shares decreases by Rs 1.

Hence new price = 3(x -1 ) = 3x - 3

Shares A and  C   lose Rs. y each and  B gains Rs. y/2.

Hence   x - y  + x - y  + y/2

= 3x  - 3y/2

3x  - 3y/2  =  3x - 3

=> 3y/2  = 3

=> y = 2

Hence Value of the y is Rs 2
