If the topper's marks are excluded then the average score of the rest of the students in three subjects = 51.25

Given :

The average marks scored by 25 students in three subjects is 60, whereas, the topper of the class scored average marks of 90 in all the three subjects

To find :

The average score of the rest of the students in three subjects when the topper's marks are excluded

Solution :

Step 1 of 3 :

Calculate the total marks scored by 25 students

Here it is given that average marks scored by 25 students in three subjects is 60

∴ The total marks scored by 25 students

= 25 × 60

= 1500

Step 2 of 3 :

Calculate total marks scored excluding the topper

It is given that the topper of the class scored average marks of 90 in all the three subjects

Total marks scored by the topper in all the three subjects

= 3 × 90

= 270

∴ The total marks scored excluding the topper

= 1500 - 270

= 1230

Step 3 of 3 :

Calculate average score of the rest of the students in three subjects when the topper's marks are excluded

When topper is excluded the remaining number of students

= 25 - 1

= 24

The average score of the rest of the students in three subjects when the topper's marks are excluded

\displaystyle \sf{  =  \frac{1230}{24}  }

\displaystyle \sf{  = 51.25 }
