Mean or Average

Given

The average of 3 prime numbers is 10.

To Find

The average of remaining two, if least of 3 prime numbers is removed.

Prerequisite Knowledge

All prime numbers are odd except 2.

Sum of 3 odd numbers is odd.

Solving

Average = Sum of terms / Number of terms

10 = Sum of terms / 3

30 = Sum of terms

So, the sum of 3 given prime numbers is 30.

Let numbers be x, y and z.

As we know, sum of 3 odd prime numbers can't be an even number. So, it confirms that one of the three prime number will be 2 which is even.

x = 2

x + y + z = 30

2 + y + z = 30

y + z = 28

As we know, least prime number among three numbers is 2 as it is least prime number.

So, number removed will be 2.

Now, taking average of other two.

Average = ( y + z ) / 2

Average = 28 / 2

Average = 14

Answer

So, average of remaining two numbers will be 14.

Learn More :-

• 2 is only even prime number.

• 1 is not a prime number.

• Sum of three odd number is always odd.

For Example :-

3 + 5 + 7 = 15 ( Odd )

11 + 13 + 17 = 41 ( Odd )
