Answer:

Numbers are 2, 8 and 8

Step-by-step explanation:

let the numbers be x, y and z

average = sum ÷ total numbers

the average of three numbers,  (x+y+z) ÷ 3  =6

                                                  x+y+z        = 6×3

                                                  x+y+z        = 18............equ.(1)

average of first two numbers,     (x+y) ÷ 2    = 5

                                                     x+y         = 5×2

                                                     x+y         = 10............equ.(2)

average of last two numbers,     (y+z) ÷ 2    = 8

                                                     y+z         = 8×2

                                                     y+z         = 16.............equ.(3)

sum of average of first two and last two,[or combing equations 2 and 3]

                                             (x+y) + (y+z)    = 10+16

                                                  x+2y+z      = 26.............equ.(4)

                                                  x+ y +z      = 18..............equ.(1)

subtracting equations we get,,,      0+y+0     = 26-18

                                                            y     = 8

substituting value of y in equ.(2),

  x+8 = 10

      x = 10-8 = 2

substituting value of y in equ.(3)

  8+z = 16

      z = 16-8 = 8

numbers are x,y,z = 2,8,8
