Given :-

  • average score in Mathematics of a class of 36 students is 60.
  • After Two to scores excluded average goes down by 2.
  • second highest score of the class is 90
  • Highest Score of Class ? .

Solution :-

→ Average marks of 36 Students = 60

→ Total Marks of Class = Average * Total Number of Students = 60 * 36 = 2160 . ---------Equation (1)

_______________

Now, when Two Top scores Excluded.

Number of Students Left = 36 - 2 = 34 .

→ New Average = 60 - 2 = 58 .

So,

Total Marks of Students = 34 * 58 = 1972. ------ Equation (2)

____________

Subtracting Equation (2) From Equation (1) we get

Total Marks of Top Two Students = 2160 - 1972 = 188.

________________

Now, Given That, Second Highest score of Class is 90.

So,

Highest score of class = 188 - 90 = 98 (Ans).

Hence, Highest score of class is 98.
