let, the initial velocity is u and at point P the velocity becomes v when it makes an angle 30°.

at point P,

u \cos(60)  = v \cos(30)

or,

v =  \frac{u}{ \sqrt{3} }

initially ,

 k=  \frac{1}{2} m {u}^{2}

at that point the kinetic energy is,

 \frac{1}{2}m {v}^{2}  =  \frac{1}{2} m  \frac{ {u}^{2} }{3}

 \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  =  \frac{k}{3}
