because when matter is transitioning from solid to liquid (melting) or liquid to solid (freezing), its temperature is fixed at the melting/freezing point, which is the sametemperature. ... Once all the solid melts, the temperature of the (now liquid) water can increase when thermal energy is added .

Greetings..!
Water(H₂O) is a compound of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. Water, like every liquid has its own distinctive boiling and freezing points. Boiling point of a substance is the temperature at which it starts boiling ,i.e changing its state by absorbing heat . Freezing is all same but it releases heat.
The boiling point of pure water is 100° Celcius or 212° Fahreinheit . At this point, the molecules start to break free of each other as they vibrate vigorously. They change their state from liquid to steam.
The freezing point of water is 0°C or 32° F..At this point, the molecules come closer to each other and they change their state from liquid to solid.
