Given :  The box contains 6 blue pens , 8 black pens and 3 red pens.

Some more blue pens are added to the box.

The probability of selecting a blue pen is now 1/2.

To Find : Initially probability that he will pick a blue pen

How many blue pens were Added to the box?

Solution:

The box contains 6 blue pens , 8 black pens and 3 red pens.

Total Pens = 6 + 8 + 3 = 17

Blue pens  = 6

probability that he will pick a blue pen = 6/17

Let say B  blue pens added

Then Total Pens = 17 + B

Blue pens  = 6 + B

probability of selecting a blue pen = 1/2

=> (6 + B)/(17 + B)  = 1/2

=> 12 + 2B = 17 + B

=> B = 5

5 blue pens were Added to the box
