What is Narration?

Narration is a way of expressing our feelings and speech.

Types of Narration :-

There are two types of Narration.

1. Direct Speech

2. Indirect Speech

Direct Speech :-

When someone's words are told or written as they are, then it is known as Direct Speech.

In this, there is no change in the words of the speaker.

Indirect Speech :-

When someone's words are not told or written as they are instead they are told or written in our own words, it is known as Indirect Speech.

In this, there is change in the words of the speaker.

In the given sentence :-

1. To change the narration of the given sentence, we have to first know that Kind of the sentence.

2. The kind of the given sentence is Verbal Question.

3. For Verbal Question, the word taken instead of "said to" is 'asked'.

4. The conjunction is 'if' or 'whether'.

5. The given question should be converted into Simple Sentence.

6. The word 'was' i. e. the helping verb is change into 'had been'. Because when the speaker speaks in past tense and the reported speech is also in past tense then it is converted into 'Past Participle'.

7. The word 'then' remains same. Onw would think that it should be converted into 'now'. But according to rules, if there is the word 'now', then it should be converted into 'then'.

8. Hence, according to these rules the changed narration of the given sentence should be as
