The brakes applied to a car produce
an acceleration of 6 m/s2 in the
opposite direction to the motion. If
the car takes 2 s to stop after the
application of brakes, calculate the
distance it travels during this time.

Explanation:

this is because of the formula s(distance) = u(intial velocity) * time + 1/2a(acceleration) *t(time)sqaure

Answer:

Acceleration= -6m/s^2 (given- in opp direction)

time= 2s

v= 0

a=v-u/t

-6=(0-u)/2

-12= -u

12= u

s=ut+1/2at^2

s= 12×2+ (-6) (4)

2

s= 24-12

s= 12km
