The perimeter of the rectangle is 90 cm.

Given:

The breadth of a rectangle is four-fifth of its length and the length exceeds the breadth by 5 cm.

To find:

Find the perimeter of the rectangle

Solution:

Let x and y be the Length and Breadth of the rectangle

Given that

The breadth of a rectangle is four-fifth of its length

=> y = (4/5)x

=> 5y = 4x ---- (1)

The length exceeds the breadth by 5 cm

=> x = y + 5

Multiply with 4 on both sides

=> 4x = 4y + 20 ---- (2)

From (1) and (2)

=> 5y = 4y + 20

=>  y = 20 cm

Substitute y = 20 cm in (1)

=>  4x = 5(20)

=>  x = 25 cm

Thus, the Length and Breadth of the rectangle are 25 cm and 20 cm

The perimeter of the rectangle = 2(Length + Breadth)

= 2(25 + 20)

= 90 cm

Therefore,

The perimeter of the rectangle is 90 cm.
