Question

The breadth of rectangle is 1/3rd of its length if perimeter is 40 metres find the length and breadth ?

Solution

Given:-

  • The breadth of rectangle is 1/3rd of its length .
  • perimeter is 40 metres .

Find:-

  • Length & Breadth of rectangle

Explanation

Important Formula

perimeter of rectangle = 2 * [Length+Breadth]

Let,

  • Length = L
  • Breadth = B

A/C to question,

( The breadth of rectangle is 1/3rd of its length )

==> B = 1/3. (L)

==> 3B - L = 0 ---------------Equ(1)

And,

(perimeter is 40 metres )

==> perimeter of rectangle = 40

==> 2 * [L + B ] = 40

==> L + B = 40/2

==> L + B = 20

Or,

==> B + L = 20 --------------Equ(2)

Add equ(1) & equ(2)

==> (3B + B ) = 20

==> 4B = 20

==> B = 20/4

==> B = 5

keep value of B in equ(1)

==> 3 * 5 - L = 0

==> L = 15

Thus

  • Length of rectangle (L) = 15 meters
  • Breadth of rectangle (B) = 5 meters

\huge\underline\mathrm{SOLUTION:-}

AnswEr:

  • Length of the rectangle = 15 metres.
  • Breadth of the rectangle = 5 metres.

Given:

  • The breadth of rectangle is 1/3rd of its length if perimeter is 40 metres.

Need To Find:

  • Length of the rectangle = ?
  • Breadth of the rectangle = ?

ExPlanation:

Perimeter of rectangle = 40 m [Given]

Sum of Length and Breadth = 20 m

Length + (1/3) Length = 20 m

Or (4/3) Length = 20

Or Length = (3/4) × 20 = 15 m

And Breadth = L/3 = 5 m

ThereFore:

  • Length of the rectangle = 15 metres.
  • Breadth of the rectangle = 5 metres.
