Athletes usually train at high altitudes. Oxygen in high altitudes is low. This increases their lung capacity, RBC levels so they get higher levels of oxygen in the same time. Training like this boosts endurance and enables them to meet their high oxygen demand at sea level. This type of training allows athletes to breath less than a normal person.
