The British put up a memorial to their fallen soldiers in New Dehli. When India gained it's independence, it renamed the memorial 'place of the unvanquished'. Why do you think the Indians cared about what the memorial was called?

unvanquished means undefeated .Indians always feel that the soldiers are always winners and they cannot be defeated that is the reason that Indians care abt the memorial was called
