Tipu Sultan was the Mysore Kingdom  ruler  pioneering rocket artillery Tipu Sultan. During his rule he introduced a series of administrative innovations, along with a new system of coinage & calendar & a new system of land revenue that had initiated the Mysore silk industry 's development.

Explanation:

  • Tipu sultan was regarded as a threat by the East India company (EIC) since he was an excellent general & a soldier. He had trained his army on the western lines & even deployed French soldiers. It was a major obstacle for the British to take control of most of South India.
  • The state of Mysore had become powerful under rulers such as Haidar Ali  &  Tipu Sultan, as opposed to the rest of India. They had full control over the  very profitable trade in cardamom & pepper on the coast of Malabar coast.  The export by Tipu Sultan of pepper, cardamom, & sandalwood via the ports in his kingdom in the year 1785 had stopped  local traders from trading with EIC. This had angered the EIC very much.
  • In addition, Tipu Sultan had established close relations with the French in India and with their assistance modernised his armed forces. The British were alarmed & started to see Tipu Sultan as a possible threat to their business interests. When the British saw a potential risk to their economic & political  interests, as it did happen in Mysore & several other kingdoms, it had recourse to "direct military confrontation". EIC lost 4 wars to Mysore, however, in the last Mysore-Anglo War, in the Battle of Seringapatam, the EIC won & Tipu Sultan was killed.
