Rivers, brooks, streams, and rivulets teach us the message of determinedly moving on, overcoming all obstacles with tolerance and patience; and finding a detour round rock-ridden course. Similarly, a man must move towards his goal like a river or a brook if he is to achieve his goals. His path may be full of obstacles, but he must keep moving like a brook. As the brook starts its journey from high mountains, on its way to the river it flows down many valleys, hills; slips between many ridges, flows by many villages, towns and cities, passing under many bridges, ultimately it joins the brimming river. Similarly, man must pass by and overcome many obstacles before reaching his goal or destination. So brook teaches us the lesson of perseverance, flowing energetically despite all obstacles, and never giving up.

EXPLANATION:
‘The Brook’ is a beautiful allegorical poem by Lord Alfred Tennyson. It traces the endless and timeless journey of a brook through hills and forests and various landscapes. Through its journey the brook confronts various situations and calamities. Some are good whilst others are painful. It meets many human beings and other living organisms. But not for once does it stop on its way. It flows on for ever with tolerance and determination.
Tolerance teaches us forbearance. It gives us the strength to live patiently. India’s greatest gift to the world is her tolerance. Tolerance has taught us Ahimsa or non-violence.
Determination is a skill required for successful achievement. Swami Vivekananda’s determination helped him conquer the West with Vedanta, Dr. A.P.J Kalam’s determination made him the ‘Missile Man of India’. If we are determined in our goal we shall overcome all hurdles.
