Burning of fossil fuels causes air pollution by the following ways:

1. Burning of fossil fuels causes pollution of air.

2. When these are burned, nitrogen oxides are released into the air. This harmful gas then contributes in the formation of smog and acid rain which causes pollution of air.

3. Fossil fuels like petroleum, coal, etc, when burned produces sulphur and nitrogen oxides such as carbon monoxide, smoke particles and sulphur dioxide.

4. These gases pollute the air and when inhaled by humans, it leads to many respiratory problems such as asthma, pneumonia, etc.

5. Also, harmful substances like ethylene is produced when the fossil fuels are burned half by automobiles.

6. Also, the harmful gases releases by burning of fossil fuels contributes towards acid rain. This corrodes marbles and even buildings and monuments.
