When the digested food enters the small intestine, small finger like projections (called villi) help in the absorption of food into the blood. This food contains nutrients like amino acids, fats, glycerol and glucose. The blood then supplies the nutrients to different cells of the body to carry out various biochemical processes and this process is known as assimilation.
