Erosion in the deserts can be caused by the wind, by water (either as mist, dew, rain, ice, rivers, creeks and all its forms), sand and dust propelled by the wind and rain, heating by the sun, cooling in the night, frost wedging, chemical alteration by creatures and plants.
Since there is very little vegetation in a desert when rain does fall there is little to hold it in place. It moves downhill and can easily become a 'flash flood' which will destroy most anything in its path. Here is flash flood damage on Badwater Road in Death Valley National Park from 2015 storms.
