Sol: Points on the circle are (2, -2) and (8, -2) Centre of the circle = (a+2, a-1) Distance between (a+2, a-1) and (2, -2) = Distance between (a+2, a-1) and (8, -2) √[(2-a-2)2 + (-2-a+1)2] = √[(8-a-2)2 + (-2-a+1)2] √[(-a)2 + (-1-a)2] = √[(6-a)2 + (-1-a)2] Squaring on both sides, a2 + 1 + a2 + 2a = 36 + a2 - 36a + 1 + a2 + 2a 2a + 1 = 37 - 34a 36a= 36 a = 1 Hence, the value of a is 1.
