Phase inversion is the change of w/o emulsion into o/w emulsion.

  • The emulsion is a mixture of two liquids where one of the liquids in ultramicroscopic size is dispersed throughout the other liquid.
  • In o/w emulsions oil is dispersed in water and w/o emulsions water is dispersed in oil.
  • They can be interconverted by using phase inversion.
  • Phase inversion is done by changing the affinity towards the emulsifier by changing the ratio of water oil and water in the emulsion.
