Helen at a very young age was quite affected by the Frost King episode. Her confidence in herself had drastically reduced and she was truly afraid of writing.

The summer and winter spent with her family after the Frost King episode enabled her to get over the unpleasant event. After a year of the episode she began to write a sketch of her life. She was very thorough with her writing, careful not to copy form anyone else’s work. Every time she wrote something she would tell her teacher, she was not sure it was her own original writing. She was gripped with a fear and uneasiness that anything she writes, might have been written before.

Miss Sullivan tried her best to help Helen get over this fear and to improve her confidence she suggested Helen to write a brief History of her life for the Youth’s Companion. Helen was twelve then. Helen feels that when she sat down to write the sketch of her life, she might have had a vision that there will be something good that will come out of this. With the encouragement of her teacher Helen started writing again, even though she was scared she was very determined. She felt that her strong resolute will help her get over the Frost King episode. And eventually she came out of this with a clearer mind and a truer knowledge of life.
