The chemical used to kill germs is a sanitiser or disinfectant. However, washing soda has some anti-microbial properties because of the presence of sodium carbonate in it. So the statement is true.

  • Sodium carbonate is the salt of carbonic acid and is thereby alkaline in nature. Hence, washing soda is mostly used as a laundry detergent.
  • Along with dirt, washing soda also gets rid of germs on clothes.
  • However, it also has other functions like microbicide, fungicide and an adjuster of pH.
  • Most commonly, the chemical that we use for killing germs( mainly bacteria and virus) on skin and surfaces is a sanitiser or disinfectant having at least 70% alcohol as an ingredient.
