Q. The chloride ion has one electron more than chlorine atom is ot true if yes give reasons.

Ans:- Yes,the given statement is true.

Reason:-

Electronic configuration :- The arrangements of electrons in the various shells of an atom is known as electronic configuration.

Chloride ion has one more electron in his outer most shell which it gains from metal during reaction.

The electronic configuration of chlorine is :- 2 ,8 ,7

in last outermost shell it has 7 electrons.

But,according to octet theory the shell contain eight electrons for its stability.

Chlorine also need one electron which it gains from metal and becomes chloride ion which has one more electron but it is stable in comparison of chlorine atom.

 Cl^- = 2 ,8 ,8
