What's the difference between trial software and shareware? Not much. Shareware is an older term that's being superseded by the term trial software. In the early days of shareware, many users thought it was OK to register the software and then share the registered version with others, but this simply isn't the case. To avoid this problem, the more precise term trial software was introduced.
