SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

The common factor of x² + 7x + 10 and x² - 25

EVALUATION

Here the given expressions are

x² + 7x + 10 and x² - 25

First expression

= x² + 7x + 10

= x² + 5x + 2x + 10

= x(x + 5) + 2(x + 5)

= (x + 2) (x + 5)

Second expression

= x² - 25

= x² - 5²

= (x + 5) (x - 5)

Hence the required common factor

= x + 5
