The common man has to bear the brunt of government policies, be it demonetization, introduction of GST or rising prices. These factors coupled with increasing black money scandals coming to light have made the rich richer and poor poorer. As a concerned citizen, write a letter to the editor highlighting the plight of common man and also suggest measures that can be implemented to ensure that the interests of the general public are safeguarded.

Subject: Effects of GST on Common People

Sir:

I am writing to your worthy self to express my views on the recently implemented GST by the Indian Finance Ministry. Any new change introduced in any system is received with reluctance by many people. Similarly, there were different responses to GST. However, the Government implemented it with the purpose of bringing uniformity and transparency  in the taxation system in the country. GST has many advantages. It will reduce number of indirect taxes. There will also be no hidden taxes, which will lower the cost of production. It will make the taxation system corruption free. Technically, GST is good for all. It will help the nation to achieve its economical and developmental goals faster. There are many advanced countries in the world where GST is used.

However, the common people in India are facing lots of trouble on account of GST. The prices of many commodities and goods used by people on daily basis have gone up. Rich people did not face many problems; it was the middle class people and poor people who faced all the troubles during the transition period.  Besides, some people are applying wrong GST to customers. Through the medium of your esteemed daily, I appeal to the finance Ministry to implement GST in a manner that is beneficial and advantageous for common people  Passing GST does not mean the problems are over; the real challenge is in implementing it for the welfare of the people of India. Kindly give my views some space in your esteemed daily.  Thanking you.

Yours truly,

Naveen

Considering the fact that scandals and hikes in taxes have rendered common men helpless, whether government decisions like demonetisation and GST hike are sensible cannot be said.

The economy has fallen due to these measures as the poor have become unable to keep up.

The impact on change of prices has been seen on many citizens across the country.
