The compound AgF₂ is unstable compound. However, if formed, the compound acts as a very strong oxidising agent. Why?

Ag+ is more stable than Ag2+ Cation due to the complete Ag+ configuration.

An oxidizing agent always tends to accept the electrons.  Ag is in + 2 oxidation condition in AgF2. It is extremely volatile and therefore easily accepts electrons to achieve a more stable + 1 oxidation state.

The reaction that takes place is -

Ag2+ + e → Ag⁺

Thus, AgF2 acts as strong .oxidizing agents .
