The compound which on acid/base hydrolysis will not result in benzoic acid is
(A) benzoyl chloride
(B) benzyl chloride
(C) phenyl cyanide
(D) phenyl benzoate

Benzyl Chloride is the only compound from the above mentioned compounds, which does not result in benzoic acid on acid/base hydrolysis.

Benzoyl chloride replaces its chlorine atom with a hydroxyl group and HCl is liberated.

Benzyl chloride will not undergo acid hydrolysis since the H+ ion is not able to approach it. 

Phenyl cyanide replaces its nitrogen atom with three hydroxyl groups, two of which go out to form a carbonyl group.

Phenyl benzoate loses the attached benzoxy group which is replaced by a hydrogen atom.
