The Congress celebrated 26 January 1930 as
Independence Day' or Day of Independence from the
British rule. It was decided that every year, this day (26
January) will be celebrated as Independence Day. With
a view to honour the importance attached to this day,
later in 1950, the Indian leaders chose 26 January as our
Republic Day.​
