Answer:

given

points A(4, –5) and B(0, 9)

mid-point of the line segment=x1+x2/2,y1+y2/2

mid-point of the line segment

=4+0/2,-5+9/2

=4/2,4/2

=2,2

mid-point of the line segment=2,2

Concept:

The mid-point is the mid part of a line segment. It is at an equal distance from both endpoints, and it is the centroid of both of the segment and also of endpoints.

Given:

We have,

Points A(4, –5) and B(0, 9).

Find:

We are asked to find the coordinates of the mid-point of the line segment joining the given points.

Solution:

So,

We have,

A(4, –5) and B(0, 9).

i.e.

x₁ = 4, x₂ = 0

And,

y₁ = -5,  y₂ = 9

Now,

Using the mid-point formula,

i.e.

Midpoint = [ (x₁ +x₂) / 2, (y₁ + y₂) / 2 ]

So,

NOw, Substituting the values of x and y in the above mentioned formula,

We get,

Midpoint = [ (x₁ +x₂) / 2, (y₁ + y₂) / 2 ]

i.e.

Midpoint = [ (4 + 0) / 2, ( -5 + 9) / 2 ]

On simplying ,

We get,

Midpoint =  [ 4/2, 4/2]

So,

Midpoint = (2, 2)

i.e.

The coordinates of the midpoint are (2, 2).

Hence, the coordinates of the mid point are (2, 2).
