Cost of 5 1/3(i.e.16/3)metres of cloth is 85 1/3(i.e.256/3).

cost of 1 metre of cloth=cost of given cloth/lenght of given cloth.

=256/3 / 16/3

=256/3*3/16

=16

Concept

Fraction is the combination of two numbers, one is above the division sign and one is below the division sign. The number above the division sign is numerator and the number below the division sign is denominator.

Given

Cost of 5 and 1/3 meters of cloth is 85 and 1/3 of a rupee.

To find

The cost of 1 meter.

Explanation

Cost of 5+1/3 meters of cloth is 85 and 1/3 rupees.

We have to first convert mixed fraction into a simple fraction which is 16/3 meters.

Cost is 85 +1/3.

Now we have to convert mixed fraction into a simple fraction which is 256/3 rupees.

Cost of 1 meter=(256/3)/(16/3)

=256*3/16*3
