let cost of 1 orange = y

5x+8y= 16

12 oranges = RS.9
1 orange = 9/12= RS 0.75= y

5x + 8 × 0.75 = 16
5x= 16-6
5x= 10
x= 2

So we have,

o = 9/12 or 3/4.....(2)

Put (2) in (1), we get

5a + 8(3/4) = 16

5a + 6 = 16
