let us consider the cost of
pen | notebook
x. | y
x+y=60 ☝
x=y-10. => x-y= -10
now by elimination method
x+y = 60. (addition)
x-y = -10
result : 2x =50
x=25
cost of pen is 25
we can find the value of y by substitution method
x+y = 60
25+y =60
y=60-25
y=35
therefore the cost of notebook is 35£
