Given : The cost of onion has increased by 20% .

Ramen babu has decided not to alter the monthly expenses towards the purchase of onion.

To Find :  in percentage hoe much he will reduce the use of onion per month.

Solution:

Let say consumption of onion = C   units

Price of onion per unit = P  Rs

Total expenses on onion = CP   Rs

The cost of onion has increased by 20% .

=> New price = P + (20/100)P  = 1.2P  Rs

Expense is same = CP  Rs

New Consumption  = CP/1.2P  = C/1.2   = 5C/6

Reduction in consumption = C - 5C/6  = C/6

reduce the use of onion per month.  = (C/6C) * 100  = 16 2/3  %

he will reduce the use of onion per month. =  16 2/3  %
