She has 12 blue chart paper and 18 red paper.

To make equal pipe so that each colour is only repeated once, she needs to eliminate 6 paper from the red stack and keep them aside, so that as she can make a stack of blue and red with total one paper of each colour.

It will give a total 6 stacks. The other 6 paper can be added to another coloured stack.

Blue Sheets = 12

Red Sheets = 18

Factors of 12:

12 = 1 x 12

12 = 2 x 6

12 = 3 x 4

Factors of 18:

18 = 1 x 18

18 = 2 x 9

18 = 3 x 6

Common factors of 12 and 18:

Common factors are 1, 2, 3 and 6

⇒ She can make equal piles or 1 sheet, 2 sheets, 3 sheets or 6 sheets

If each pile has 1 sheets,

red sheets = 12 ÷ 1 = 12 piles

blue sheets = 18 ÷ 1 = 18 piles

Total piles = 12 + 18 = 30

If each pile has 2 sheets,

red sheets = 12 ÷ 2 = 6 piles

blue sheets = 18 ÷ 2 = 9 piles

Total piles = 6 + 9 = 15

If each pile has 3 sheets

red sheets = 12 ÷ 3 = 4 piles

blue sheets = 18 ÷ 3 = 6 piles

Total piles = 4 + 6 = 10

If each piles has 6 sheets

red sheets = 12 ÷ 6 = 2 piles

blue sheets = 18 ÷ 6 = 3 piles

Total piles = 2 + 3 = 5

Answer: She can have 30 piles of 1 sheet each, 15 piles or 2 sheets each, 10 piles of 3 sheets each or 5 piles of 6 sheets each
