The cross section of a railway tunnel is in the shape of a trapezium . The tunnel is 8m at the top and 12m wide at the bottom and the area of the cross section is 100square m . Determine the height of the tunnel.

First parallel side= 8m

Second parallel side=12m

Area of cross section= 100msquare

Area of trapezium = 1/2×height×sum of parallel sides

100 = 1/2×h×(8+12)

100=1/2×20h

100= 10h

h= 10 m

Height = 10 m
