The cross-section of a swimming pool is in the shape of a trapezium. The swimming
pool is 16 m wide at the top and 12 m wide at the bottom and the area of cross-
section is 112 m2. Find the depth of the pool.​

Let depth be h

Given :

  • Cross section area : 112m²

  • Length of first parallel side : 16m : L1

  • Length of second parallel side : 12m : L2

 \sf \: Area =  \frac{(l_{</strong><strong>1</strong><strong>}  +  l_{2}) }{2} \times h  \\  \\    \sf112 {m}^{2} =  \frac{16 + 12}{2}  \times h \\  \\   \sf224 {m }^{2}  = 28h \\  \\  \sf \frac{224}{28}  = h \\  \\   \red{\sf8m = h}
