Answer:

Let the man’s age be 4x and his wife’s age be 3x.

After 4 years their ages will be 4x+4 and 3x+4, and their ratio is given 9:7.

So (4x+4)/(3x+4) = 9/7.

Solving, 7(4x+4)=9(3x+4)

i.e 28x+28=27x+36

i.e 28x-27x=36–28

i.e x=8.

Their present ages are 4(8)=32 and 3(8)=24 years.

Given the ratio of their ages at marriage is 5:3

Let their ages be 32-y and 24-y at that time .

Then (32-y)/(24-y)=5/3

Solving for y.

3(32-y)=5(24-y)

96–3y=120–5y

5y-3y=120–96

2y=24

y=12.
